The current spotlight item "Power Of Nightmares" was produced by the BBC who (as far as I'm aware) have never allowed any of their material into the public domain, and have never licensed anything under creative commons either.

PoN is still very much in copyright and shouldn't be anywhere on Archive.org.

The BBC are a public broadcaster, but they still retain copyright on everything they do. You can't distribute any of their material without their permission (and often even the BBC can't distribute it either because copyright is shared with a third party).

Looking into this further, practically all of this documentary maker's films are on archive.org in some place or other, all of them breaking copyright.

One of the descriptions even admits that they taped it from a live broadcast by the BBC.

Is there any easy way to clean this up? There are already thousands of illegal torrents out there for people who want to break copyright, archive.org should not be one of them.

When PoN director Adam Curtis brought the trilogy to the San Francisco Film Festival in 2005, he stated that the film was not in official distribution in the US and urged audience members to download it from the Internet Archive in order that it might reach a larger audience.

Many makers and distributors have chosen to use the IA to help get greater audiences for their work, and Curtis's comments indicated that he didn't frown on this strategy.

That doesn't mean that the internet archive has the right to distribute these videos, the BBC would have a say in this too.

Have the BBC given permission for this distribution?

What is the point of Internet Archive if it intends to just ignore copyright?
